Red Wine Chocolate Loaf

About the Recipe

Red wine and chocolate were also made for each other. I found the recipe while scrolling through Pinterest and knew I had to try it right away. It was also an excuse to buy some red wine. My favorite kind right now is Apothic Dark and thought it would pair very well with the chocolate.  It is a delicious loaf with just a few easy steps. Once baked, it has a light texture and isn’t heavy like most other loaves.

It always seems that the recipes I choose to bake always have some sort of alcohol in them. This was rather inconvenient since I had to ask my mom to get me different liqueurs until I was old enough to go into the liquor store. And most of the time those recipes do not require any baking, so the alcohol does not bake out…

Life Lesson 3

Always keep red wine on hand. You never know when you will need wine for baking or for drinking.


  1. Gather all of your ingredients.wendy-9
  2. Place all of the dry ingredients: flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and cinnamon  into a  bowl.wendy-11
  3. Measure out wet ingredients: butter, brown sugar, white sugar, eggs into a different mixing bowl.wendy-13
  4. Mix until combined and creamy.
  5. Add in the wine! Remember to pour some for yourself as well.wendy-16
  6. Then you can pour the vanilla into the bowl. The consistency of the batter will be very runny and may look chunky and piecey. This is OK.
  7. Next you can add in the dry ingredients and stir until combined. The batter will become smooth. wendy-21
  8. Place the batter into the loaf pan lined with parchment paper.wendy-23
  9. Bake at 350 F for 1 hour. To test that it is done, poke the cake with a knife. If it comes out clean with no batter then the cake is done!wendy-39


  • 8 tbsp butter {room temperature}
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs {room temperature}
  • 3/4 cup red wine, I used Apothic Dark
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 & 1/4 cups of flour
  • 1/2 cup of dark cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
